Vitamin C Explained.
WHAT IT IS: An antioxidant that’s usually in the form of a skin serum.
BENEFITS: Protects against free radical damage, evens skin tone, and promotes collagen production.
HOW IT PROTECTS YOU: As an antioxidant, one of vitamin C’s main functions is to protect the skin. Things like UV rays and pollution create free radicals that damage the skin. Vitamin C helps to keep the skin healthy and improves visible signs of aging.
HOW IT PROMOTES COLLAGEN: Vitamin C also plays an important role in collagen synthesis. Collagen gives our skin support and structure, and as it deteriorates with age that’s when we get wrinkles and lines. Vitamin C helps to support the growth of collagen!
HOW IT HELPS WITH PIGMENTATION: Vitamin C can also lighten dark spots and hyperpigmentation by blocking the pathway of pigment synthesis.
WHO SHOULD USE IT: Most vitamin C is not recommended for extremely sensitive skin and can be problematic oily or acne- prone skin. However, the SkinCeuticals medical- grade product line carries a vitamin C serum for each skin type. One for dry/aging skin, one for combination skin, and one for oily/acne- prone skin!
WHEN YOU SHOULD USE IT: Use your vitamin C every morning before your moisturizer and spf. (Don’t skip the spf!)
